Scott is a town in Cortland County, New York, United States. The population was 1,176 at the 2010 census.[1]The town was named after General Winfield Scott. It is in the northwest corner of Cortland County and is northwest of Cortland.


Scott is within the former Central New York Military Tract. The first settler arrived around 1799. The town was formed in 1815 from the town of Preble. The population in 1865 was 1,149.
